Departing for Manchester

October 31, 2008 · Posted in Thesis · 1 Comment

Manchester, here I come! This is a time-capsule post – so the things that I am saying here may not necessarily be what I am doing.

As an avid football fan, I followed Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) very closely. Hence, this time, it kind of excites me as it is probably the first time that I am going to see Old Trafford; one of the biggest football stadium in the world. With the likes of star players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Carlos Tevez, Patrick Evra, Edwin van der Sar and Paul Scholes, this is likely to be quite a much more thrilling trip; however, I really doubt if I could get to meet them.

Happy Halloween 2008

For one of the many occasions, I am spending Halloween this year in Manchester! Brilliant, I may get to attend to some treat-or-trick stuffs. Previously, I have kids knocking on my door (last year) when I was in Ireland, but this would probably be a little different, albeit special.

By the way, the image shown above is from Google. Cool, isn’t it?

Prior Departure to Glasgow – At Dublin Airport

October 30, 2008 · Posted in Thesis · 1 Comment

Okay, no more time-capsule thing. As I am waiting patiently for the next flight to Glasgow at Dublin Airport, I decided that writing a post here would keep my time occupied. It will be an Aer Lingus flight, departing from Dublin to Glasgow, at 9:25am.

It is still early at the moment, since leaving Shaw Court (or rather Harcourt Hotel) to the airport. I decided that a cup of cappuccino would keep me warm for the next couple of minutes prior boarding.

Graduation Day – PhD

October 30, 2008 · Posted in Thesis · Comment

Today is probably one of the most significant days in my life, as I graduated from National University of Ireland, Maynooth (NUIM) with conferring of the title of Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering.

This is a finally long wait after 5 years later; but I’m glad that it is done and dusted.

Safe and Sound in Ireland

October 28, 2008 · Posted in Thesis · Comments Off on Safe and Sound in Ireland

Okay, I am about one-and-a-half day late in making this post. The reason why I hadn’t made the post earlier to announce about my safety in Ireland is because the Internet in this apartment is very slow; it disconnects me from the Internet once every 30 seconds, making it very irritating and hard to access websites or make posts.

The time now is 4:30pm in Singapore, but 8:30am in the bright morning of Dublin city centre. The last 2 days were very cold and I had to wear several pieces clothing to keep myself warm. Yesterday, I came across a rather cheap pair of gloves, which costs only EUR 1.50 from Penny’s. Well, it feels great!

Ryanair Flight to Dublin

October 26, 2008 · Posted in Thesis · 1 Comment

Time-capsule post: Am I still following my itinerary? Hopes so…

It is about time to board RyanAir, the UK Budget airline, to Dublin. RyanAir is similar to TigerAir in Asia, as both was managed by the same director, when the latter was launched in Asia. Anyway, the flight is a one-hour journey that takes me across the sea to Ireland.

The next thing I knew is I have already landed in Dublin airport. The airport is not fantastic, and particularly crowded. Thus, finding food for lunch is not an easy feat. But, that’s probably the best thing to do at the moment, before going to the apartment that I have booked for the next couple of days. Oh, I have not mentioned, it’s not going to be a B&B or hotel. I found something nice – Harcourt Hotel – which also provides serviced apartments. Hope that it lives up to my expectation.

Arrived in Manchester Airport

October 26, 2008 · Posted in Thesis · 1 Comment

This is also a time-capsule post, i.e. things may not be happening exactly to the scenario as described below. So, to continue with the story

The plane has finally touched down at the Manchester Airport. It was so early in the morning and I’m feeling pretty chilly. Luckily I have this long black coat which I brought onboard the plane with me, which can come in handy.

After that, I skipped around the airport just to check for the next departure time (to Dublin). It was about 3 hours later; hence, the check-in counter won’t be open at the moment, thus the first thing to do now is to get myself a hot cup of coffee and some breakfast to go along with it!
