Few Upsets in FA Cup Third Round 2008/09

January 4, 2009 · Posted in English Football

FA CupThe Saturday matches of the FA Cup have seen a couple of upsets. Chelsea has drawn 1 – 1 against Southend, a League One team. Peter Clarke equalised with a 90th minute go to ensure Southend stands a chance in the competition.

The richest club in the world, Manchester City, was knocked out by Nottingham Forest, from the Championship League, and is probably the biggest shock of the day. The lowly-ranked team has scored 3 goals at the visitor’s ground. There is also another shock; League One side, Hartlepool, stun Stoke City, a Premiership League team with a 2 goals to nil.

Apart from these upsets, the others have done their job. Arsenal won 3 – 1 against Plymouth, whereas Liverpool scored 2 away goals and keeping a clean sheet against Preston.

Manchester United will face Southampton on Sunday (today).
