Final Day of the PremiershipToday, Sunday May 11, 2008, is the final day, or rather D-Day, for the teams in the English Premiership League (EPL). The final day will see the who claim the title for the EPL.

The advantage is in Manchester United’s backyard. All it takes for them to reclaim the title is by winning at Wigan. However, anything less favour in terms of results for Manchester United, compared to Chelsea, will present the title to the latter. Chelsea faced Bolton at home.

However, there is nothing short of drama for the teams at the bottom of the league. Derby is confirmed to be relegated. However, there are still uncertainty between Birmingham, Reading and Fulham. Fulham is currently above the relegation zone, but could falter if they failed to overcome 8th-placed Portsmouth. Reading has a better chance, facing an opponent that has only won once all season, Derby.

Other aspects of the results that matter today is a place in the Uefa Cup. Everton needs a point to seal that place, but if they failed to achieve that, Aston Villa might have a chance. Manchester City is also in contention to grab a Uefa Cup place via the Fair Play League. Aston Villa or Blackburn is the two likely teams to grab the Intertoto Cup place.

The Champion League places have been confirmed. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are already guaranteed places in the Champion League next season. The top 2 teams; that is, Manchester United and Chelsea, will avoid the play-off.
