The GNU Image Manipulation Program, rather GIMP in short, is an excellent piece of image editing tool. If you know Adobe Photoshop, this application is an almost exact duplicate of all the functionalities and capabilities of the former. GIMP supports several operating systems platform, such as Linux, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Sun OpenSolaris and FreeBSD. Get GIMP! |

Before proceeding, I have to emphasis that Paint.NET is not an open source application, however it is free to download and use. This application is a powerful image and photo-editing tool that runs solely on Windows platform. It was originally intended to replace the conventional Microsoft Paint (an application found under Accessories), but the software has developed further to a much powerful tool, comparable to Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paintshop Pro and Microsoft Photo Editor. The only drawback from this application is that users have to install .NET Framework 2.0 in the system in order to run the Paint.NET. Get Paint.NET! |
