Least Christmas Mood Amongst All Christmas Seasons

Tesco Santa HatNot sure if it’s me, or the place that I am in now. This year’s Christmas has been rather quiet and almost non-existence for me. Over the last 6 to 7 years been in Europe, Christmas is an almost joyous and exciting period of the year.

After returning to Singapore, I just find the lack of taste in Christmas; no white Christmas, no coldness in winter, no fireplace, no carolling in shopping malls. It is just like another normal day here, except it’s a public holiday.

I recalled the times in UK that Tesco used to close on Christmas day, operated half day on Christmas’ eve and New Year’s eve. The excitement is there!

In Ireland, despite a less favourable place, there is also a sense of festive feeling when walking around the shopping mall, such as Liffey Valley.

On the other hand, Singapore has only the Orchard Road that lit up slightly brighter than other parts of the island. People, especially youngsters, still go for the countdown, but I thought countdown has simply crept away from my usual satisfaction of what is being defined as a lovely Christmas.

Anyway, I’m not going to be too disappointed, judging from the fact that I can save quite a bit of electricity bill by not turning on the heater, the local climate is just nice and warm for a winter season.
