Manchester United to Close in The Gap by Christmas

Barclay Premiership Table on December 23, 2008

A lucky star must be following the Premiership champion, Manchester United. Just as they have been crowned the Champion of England and Champion of Europe, they have succeeded in winning the Club World Cup trophy to be crowned as the World champion. Whilst the Red Devils were busy with the schedule in Japan, the teams back home in England were also showing some interesting results.

Both the top two teams of the Premiership chart, Liverpool and Chelsea, have dropped points after holding to draws with their respective rivals. Having played 38 games, it leaves Aston Villa in third place and Arsenal in fifth place.

If we look at Manchester United, the team has 2 extra games in hand. The first game is against Stoke City, after they returned from Japan. Manchester United is likely to steal those wins from the 2 games to close the gaps between the top 3 positions to as small as possible. Statistically, they will still remain in third position, but the point difference is vastly insignificant if they can do that. It means, it will almost certainly be an open race by New Year.

However, anything can happen in football. Arsenal, despite lying 5th in the table, can still pull some triggers to join in the race for the championship. I foresee it will be an exciting New Year race and towards the end of 2008/09 season of the Premiership League.
