Robin van Persie Rescued Manchester United in 7-goal Thriller Against Reading

For 14 times this season in the English Premier League, Manchester United has conceded the first goal in every of these matches. This time, it was away to face Reading, where 7 first-half goals sealed the fate of the match.

After going down to Reading’s opening goal, Manchester United fought back to 2-1, but two quick successive goals by Reading restored their 1-goal cushion. It took another moment of magic from Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie to swing the match back in favor of the Red Devils.

Although the victory was claimed by Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson was not at all pleased, especially with the defensive fragility his team has been displaying throughout this season. There were too many a times when he felt his team “was rescued”.

Having said that, he could not have been more glad (or pleased) to have extended the lead at the top of the Premier League table, knowing that second-placed Manchester City and third-placed Chelsea has drawn and lost their matches, respectively. Sir Alex Ferguson is unlikely to let go of his grip this month, to ensure he has a good New Year.
