Starting On A New Contractual Job

Sitting in one of the McDonald’s restaurants in Orchard Road (Singapore) enjoying the morning breakfast of S$2 meal, consisting of a cup of coffee and a Sausage McMuffin. I have just signed a new contract at Recruit Express.

It is strange. All my previous jobs are contract-based; all coming through from the academic sector as a Research Assistant and a Teacher. Just this morning, I was offered a job from a different sector; that is, from the commercial sector, but once again, it is contract-based. Anyway, I would really be bothered if the working environment is good and as long it pays equivalently well as according to the capability that I have and the result that I produced.

Thanks to the interview last week, I managed to secure this wonderful job working in my specialised area of statistics and data analysis. I suppose this calls for some celebration! But usually, I don’t get carried away with such stuffs.

So, the job starts next week on Wednesday, which means I will have less time on the net, especially maintaining web sites, participating in forums and perhaps designing, coding and programming. It’s going to be a 9 to 5 rat-race kind of job. Though many would argue I should have gone onto teaching line as that is where my speciality lies, however, I treat research as a form of interest and teaching as a hobby (which only explains why when I took up the teaching job in Nanjing, it is only for one month). My foreseeable career is in the commercial sector, which I thought this is a good opportunity to provide a springboard from a total change of working lifestyle.

While, I am still drinking my coffee, the laptop battery life is slowly draining itself. I have no clue where I can charge this laptop, but I am very relaxed today. No… not exactly, all of a sudden I am being reminded of my THESIS!

Updates of my Thesis: Cool, I had a short email conversation with my professor yesterday. Everything seems fine, except with a potential delay in completion. There will be some chapter swapping, and probably inclusion of some discussion (which is very important). As I have also submitted Chapter 4 for him to vet through, I suppose I am fine at the moment. With the exception of the upcoming workload, I am probably finding lesser time for myself. So, less blogging…
