Real Madrid in Champion League

In the semi-final of the UEFA Champion League, Real Madrid needed 3 goals without reply against Borussia Dortmund to ensure their progress to the final stage after the latter scored 4-1 in the first leg of the meeting between the two.

Unfortunately, Real spurred a series of opening chances and managed to score 2-0, such that Borussia Dortmund will now progress with an aggregate of 4-3. After being knocked out from the Champion League, Real’s manager, Jose Mourinho hinted that he may not be around next season. After Tuesday’s match, he said: “I know in England I am loved, I know I am loved by some clubs, especially one.” Sadly for superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, he could not find a respond to the solid defense held by the away team.

August 26, 2011 · Posted in English Football · Comments Off on Champion League 2011/2012 Group Phase

UEFA Champion LeagueYesterday, I was looking checking at the outcome of the draw from the Champion League Group phase; who would be put together in the same group. In summary, the result is provided below.

Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Manchester City, Napoli
Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor
Group C: Manchester United, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati
Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb
Group E: Chelsea, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen,Genk
Group F: Arsenal, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund
Group G: FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit, Apoel FC
Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen

Among the 4 English football clubs, it seems that Manchester City has the toughest draw in Group A. However, given the quality and the experience of the team, punters are predicting that all 4 teams should be able to negotiate through the group phase.

Let’s see how it goes in the next couple of months.
