Top Four Teams In Position With Eight More Games To Go

Premiership Table as of 20 March 2008As you can see from the English Premiership Table, with just only 8 more games to be played, the top four teams are aligned as predicted by most pundits. A couple of weeks ago, Arsenal was top of the chart, leading Manchester United by 5 points. The scenario has now reversed with defending champion, Manchester United in pole position, leading Arsenal by 3 points.

Chelsea remained in third position after drawing 4-4 against Tottenham Hotspur last night, with 2 points adrift from second place, Arsenal. In addition, the fourth place is now occupied by Liverpool, as expected by many people, by overhauling Everton as the latter lost to Fulham over the weekend.

Currently, all teams in the English Premiership Table have played 30 games, and only 8 more games to go. As it seems, only the top three teams have potential to lift this season’s trophy. Despite Manchester United in the driving seat, the Red Devils have to play against Arsenal and Chelsea at home. But probabilistically, these three teams have great potential to be in next season’s Champion League. The fourth place is yet to be determined as Everton might have a slim chance to take over Liverpool, if the latter slips anytime from now, to enter the Champion League.

At the bottom of the table, fighting against relegation, Derby has a very little chance of staying in the Premiership next season. The other two teams are currently unknown, as any 6 of the following teams (Newcastle, Reading, Birmingham, Sunderland, Bolton and Fulham) have almost equal likelihood to be relegated. Wigan and Middlesborough are less likely to be relegated, but they are merely 6 points away from relegation.
