February 17, 2008 · Posted in English Football

Wayne RooneyAfter serving his automatic suspension for picking up 5 yellow cards, Wayne Rooney returns to produce a virtuoso solo display against Arsenal in the FA Cup tie, with a 4-0 win at Old Trafford.

Arsenal suffered the most, right from the start, with both sides making changes in preparation for the next Champion League match. Manchester United returned to winning style after the 1-2 loss against Manchester City last weekend.

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring in the 16th minute with an impressive header. Darren Fletcher then scored another header at the 74th minute. Nani volleyed past Jens Lehmann from within the penalty area. The first half summed up a one-sided display as Manchester United poured forward to tear Arsenal’s defense.

The hitman, Wayne Rooney, was substituted by Saha on the 71th minute, as Manchester United is almost sure of victory with 3 goals on their hands. Darren Fletcher, capped another formidable display, scored another header to bring the goal tally to 4-0.

Arsenal, who have enjoyed taunting outclassed teams in the past, were not enjoying getting a taste of their own medicine. In addition, Emmanuel Eboue was sent off for a foul on Patrice Evra after 48 minutes. William Gallas was lucky to escape punishment for an ill-disciplined kick at Nani, as the game comes towards the end.

Substitute Louis Saha almost added a fifth with two minutes left but keeper Lehmann saved well to spare the team from further embarrassment.
